Chairman: Friends of Wexford Racecourse came together to see what might be done to raise funds for the racecourse. The first thing they did was dug deep into their own pockets. This was the start of a dynamic fund-raising campaign. It was also the start of Wexford Supporters’ Club in 1987. In attendance at that first meeting were Stephen Banville (RIP), Christy Murphy, Alan Cloney, Michael Murphy, Jimmy O’Keeffe (RIP) and Martin Kent (RIP).
The Supporters’ Club’s aims is
(1) raising funds to assist the racecourse to upgrade machinery and buildings through membership fees, sponsorship and various events
(2) attracting more people to the races
(4) help patrons to enjoy their days at the races
Now, more than ever, the Club needs members. Please join for €55 and support your local racecourse. Thank you.
The Supporters Club has in the past few years purchased the ride-on lawnmower, new tractor, bench seats, signage, crowd control barriers on stands and contributed to new Easyfix hurdles as well as hurdles repairs and many other upgrades at the course.
Supporters meet in the special Supporters’ Club Bar on race days. This is conveniently located close to the bookies. Subsidised sandwiches and cakes are on sale for members and guests. From left: Jim Mernagh, Pat Fortune (RIP), Derek Nally, Davy, Martin McDonald, Mikey, Pip Breen, Alan Cloney & Sean Tyghe
